Revenge
This is a Flasher I wrote today. I didn't feel I could write about anything else. A flasher is a small story of 100 words or fewer.
REVENGE
They prayed as the wind howled and the house moaned in an orgy of violence. When the silence came they thought they would be okay.
But then the water rose.
It stalked them up the stairs, into the attic. They lay on a damp mattress, sweating, whispering, trying to make love to comfort themselves.
Nine days later, a national guardsman punched a hole in the roof and fell to his death as he recoiled from the stench. Ray and Selma rose on a miasma of hot air, joining the cloud of other spirits that would haunt the city forever.
